We are HYPED

HYPED is a student society at the University of Edinburgh dedicated to accelerating the development of Hyperloop and implementing the technology in the UK. HYPED is advancing both technical and commercial aspects of Hyperloop, having seen success in three international competitions.

Our team was founded in 2015 and has grown to over 200+ members as of 2018. The team is diverse, comprised of an international group of students across academic disciplines.

What is Hyperloop?

Hyperloop is Elon Musk’s concept for the future of mass transportation. The concept would see electrically propelled pods travel autonomously through a near-vacuum tube. The pods will be able to reach speeds comparable to aircraft, and could see a journey such as Edinburgh to London shortened to 50 minutes.

Hyperloop is garnering global interest and investment, with companies such as Virgin Hyperloop One, HTT, and Arrivo founded to build the technology. Governments around the world are supporting the technology, with progress developing in the UAE, the Netherlands, Finland, India, Russia and the United States.

Our Efforts

As finalists of the SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition, HYPED has built two functioning prototype pods. We are demonstrating the key technologies that drive the Hyperloop.

HYPED is the winner of the Hyperloop One Global Challenge, having proposed a route connecting Edinburgh to London, with a total journey time of 50 minutes. The team is now focusing on research projects.

HYPED is committed to benefiting the community by promoting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) on both a local and national level to young people.
